16oz Heavyweight Selvedge Denim Jeans [D1949] Plus Size

In the early 1940s, during World War II in the United States, it was necessary to concentrate national resources for the war effort.

As part of this, the Wartime Production Board implemented strict regulations on the manufacturing of civilian goods, including clothing. In particular, cotton and metal parts (rivets, buttons, etc.) used in garments were prioritized for military use, and workwear such as jeans was greatly affected. Under the Board’s guidance, details considered luxury were completely eliminated, causing specification changes like simplified rivets, removal of rivets on watch pockets, and arched stitching replaced by printed (painted) designs. As a result, every part of the jeans was significantly simplified to meet wartime specifications, shifting to a rugged design focused solely on practicality. Additionally, many skilled seamstresses and tailors were mobilized for military production, so factory workers with little experience were commonly assigned to produce jeans. This led to rough sewing quality, with uneven stitches and distortions frequently occurring. Since even re-stitching was restricted, these imperfections were shipped as finished products.

Taking this wartime background into account, we have meticulously reproduced the coarse and utilitarian sewing specifications and simplified details of that era. We deliberately recreated the uneven stitchwork and “distortions” in the design, and captured the dulled indigo blue reminiscent of oxidation, along with the rough texture unique to that time, using 16.0oz selvedge denim specially developed for these jeans.

The tack buttons feature iron laurel wreath buttons, which naturally develop authentic rust over time. The silhouette is a regular straight fit, model 101.
