Amami Oshima Mud-Dyed GL3 Jeans [D1913]

To maximize the unique characteristics of the power loom “GL3” made by Toyota Automatic Loom Works over half a century ago, the original 15oz selvedge denim “GL3 Denim” is designed with STUDIO D’ARTISAN’s exclusive formula, down to the unevenness and thickness of the yarn, and the number of warp and weft threads. This denim offers a distinctive irregular texture and rustic feel that cannot be replicated by modern efficient, uniform mass-production.

The jeans made from this special denim are dyed using the traditional “Amami Mud-Dyeing” technique that has been passed down in Amami Oshima island since ancient times.

Using dye from the native tea tree (Wrightia religiosa) and iron-rich mud originating from strata over 1.5 million years old, each pair is meticulously dyed by natural processes. This creates a depth and warmth of color impossible to reproduce with synthetic dyes.

The silhouette is a regular straight fit based on the SD-101 model. This timeless shape offers long-lasting wear and a unique aging process only achievable through natural dyeing.
