The "Awa Shijira Weave" is said to have originated in the Awa region, where the cotton stripe known as "Tatae-ori" was actively woven. It is believed to have been created when the fabric, wet from a sudden rain, was left to dry, causing it to shrink.
Characterized by its unique texture called "shibo," this effect arises from the combination of taut vertical threads and relaxed horizontal threads, creating a difference in elasticity. This texture provides a light touch and comfortable wear, ensuring that it does not cling to the skin even when sweating.
In July 1978, the natural Awa dye was used in the "Awa Shijira Weave," which was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
At D'Artisan, we have created shirts using fabric that highlights the characteristics of the "Awa Shijira Weave," allowing for a light and comfortable wear. You can choose from two different patterns.
