We use Dalczan original 13.5oz “Ishikawadai Denim.” This denim prioritizes texture and historical authenticity over efficiency, creating a carefully crafted fabric.

‘Ishikawadai’ refers to a ring spinning machine manufactured in 1953 by Ishikawa Seisakusho Co., Ltd., which is the oldest operating Japanese-made ring spinner. No manufacturing records remain, and it is regarded as the oldest ring spinning machine currently operating in Japan. Compared to modern ring spinning machines, its speed is about one-third, allowing only slow spinning, resulting in low productivity. However, because it puts less stress on the cotton, it preserves the material’s natural softness, creating unique, natural cotton textures that cannot be replicated by computers, producing a slub effect reminiscent of hand-spun yarn.

The cotton used is known as “Deep South Cotton,” harvested from the southernmost tip of Texas, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley by the US-Mexico border. This cotton, grown vigorously in the American soil, has a high maturity level, with thick, strong fibers, offering resilience and structure. It is the perfect material to achieve a rough, dry texture.

The warp threads are indigo dyed without compromising the cotton’s characteristic texture. We omit the usual yarn refining process, introducing uneven indigo dyeing to emulate vintage denim from that era. To recreate denim from 1953, all processes are deliberately carried out using low-tech methods.

Products crafted from ‘Ishikawadai Denim,’ spun on the Ishikawadai machine, will develop rich aging effects through wear, breathing new life as next-generation vintage apparel.
